URGE YOUR LEGISLATORS TO SUPPORT THE RESOLUTION TO DELAY KANCARE

URGE YOUR LEGISLATORS TO SUPPORT THE RESOLUTION TO DELAY KANCARE

Legislators have heard the concerns of thousands of Invisible Kansans and their families who feel that the Administration is moving too fast in implementing its massive Medicaid managed care proposal, otherwise known as “KanCare”.  Many legislators have now signed on to a resolution in the Kansas House & Senate urging the Administration to delay implementation of KanCare from January 2013 to July 2013.  This resolution is a positive step forward to build Statehouse support against the current KanCare timeline.

A press conference was held at the Statehouse yesterday regarding the resolution (a copy is attached).  Your continued advocacy efforts are needed now more than ever to ensure all Kansas legislators are encouraged to add their names to this important resolution.  Delaying implementation of KanCare would give Kansas valuable time:  (1) time for legislators to further examine potential impacts to vulnerable Medicaid populations, (2) time  for the Administration to evaluate the growing calls to exclude non-medical long-term care for persons with developmental disabilities, (3) time to give concerned Kansans opportunities to provide input into the proposal.  In order for this to happen, you need to take time TODAY to ask your legislators to support this resolution.  Please visit www.invisiblekansans.com to send an updated letter to your legislators urging them to sign the resolution.  There is also an option to continue sending e-mails to the Administration, legislators, and the media urging a carve out of DD long-term care services.

The resolution has been receiving great press including this editorial in the Kansas City Star: “Stop the rush toward risky Medicaid change: Brownback, Colyer are ignoring good advice from professionals”

Please be sure to thank the following legislators who stood together at the press conference yesterday on behalf of this resolution:

Senators: Anthony Hensley, Dick Kelsey, Laura Kelly
Representatives: Bob Bethell, Bill Feuerborn, Jerry Henry, Eber Phelps

At press time the following Johnson & Miami County legislators have signed on to “co-sponsor” this resolution:

Senators: John Vratil
Representatives: Barbara Bollier, Pat Colloton, Mike Slattery, Ron Worley

Be sure to show them your appreciation for their support!

IF YOUR LEGISLATOR IS NOT LISTED ABOVE PLEASE CONTACT THEM AND FIND OUT WHY.
