One More Month…or a LIFETIME!

ONE MORE MONTH OR A LIFETIME!

If the Kansas legislature doesn’t act to carve DD services out of KanCare when it returns May 8th, then the services your son or daughter receives (possibly for the balance of their life) will depend on the private insurance companies who run KanCare.

The legislature ended its regular session last week in typical fashion – in a flurry of debate and business that, because of your dedication, did not include Sen. Sub. for HB 2155!  Your advocacy work made every legislator sit up and take notice of the DD community.  GREAT JOB!

Kansas legislators are back home and will not return to the Statehouse until May 8th for the Omnibus or “Veto” Session.  It is important that we keep reminding them that we expect a Permanent Carve Out when they return to Topeka.  Remind them that you will not gamble your child’s future with KanCare.  Let them know that you expect them to remember Kansas’ most vulnerable citizens when they return to the Statehouse.

There will be plenty of opportunities to remind them during the break.  There are two Town Hall Forums THIS SATURDAY, APRIL 13th in OLATHE AND GARDNER:

Olathe City Hall
100 E Santa Fe St Olathe, KS
9:00 – 10:30 am

Legislators:
Sen. Julia Lynn, Rep. Arlen Siegfreid, Rep. Keith Esau, Rep. Ron Ryckman,
Jr., Rep. Lance Kinzer

Gardner City Hall
120 E Main St
Gardner, KS
11:00 am – Noon

Legislators:
Sen. Julia Lynn, Sen. Pat Apple, Rep. Bill Sutton

Please RSVP to Abby Hardwick 913-557-4000 or [email protected]

It does not matter if you live in their district.  If your schedule allows it is imperative that you attend as many of these forums as you can and ask them to support a permanent carve out of KanCare for Kansans with Developmental Disabilities.  Remember to report back what you hear!

Another opportunity…

Lakemary & Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) are
hosting a Town Hall Forum:

Tuesday, April 16th at 6:00 p.m.

Matt Ross Community Center
8101 Marty St
Overland Park, Kansas

Please RSVP to Abby Hardwick (913-557-4000 or [email protected]).

Be sure to invite your legislators when you speak with them!
