June 11, 2012 Legislative Update

June 11, 2012
Your Monday Morning Update:

Who’d have guessed?

In the rush to get KanCare out the door and on the books, the State forgot to notify two clinics within the Indian Health Service about the proposed change to Medicaid. As a result, the State has asked the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to “pull” the 1115 waiver request, until there is time to consult with these two centers.

The “whoops” about this is that the original 1115 waiver request was submitted one day before CMS changed the requirements for submission.  New requirements call for the State to hold at least two public meetings on the waiver application and allow 30 days before submitting it.

So what does that mean for us?

The State has announced two public forums regarding the KanCare 1115 waiver!

Meeting times are:
*June 18, 2012—2 pm
Hughes Metropolitan Complex
Wichita State University
Wichita, KS
*June 20, 2012—3 pm
Memorial Hall Auditorium
120 SW 10th Ave.
Topeka, KS

These locations are neither close nor convenient, but if at all possible, please try to make one. June is a great time to take a day trip across those scenic Flint Hills and you never know if you will see the buffalo herd just before you get off the turnpike leading into Topeka!

If you are unable to attend one of the public forums, the State is also accepting public comment at:http:///www.kdheks.gov/hcf/kancare/.

It’s important that you take the opportunity to give the State your “two cents” worth.

Your Two Cents = Common Sense

Please remember- if you don’t give, you can’t expect change…
