Girls Night Out (GNO) Program

The Girls Night Out (GNO) program is recruiting peer volunteers!! GNO is recruiting girls between the ages of 10-19 years old for our upcoming fall 2018 and spring 2019 skills groups. Do you know a girl(s) or any families you can send this to? See the attached flyer for more details.

GNO is a social and self-care skills program for girls with autism and other related developmental disabilities, offered through the CCHD at the University of Kansas Medical Center. The program uses a method that teaches and practices social and self-care skills in their natural community settings. GNO includes girls without developmental disabilities, as trained peer volunteers to participate in the program, create social opportunities for practice, and model use of skills and supports. We actively recruit peer volunteers throughout the year and provide community service hours for participation.

The upcoming skills groups will focus on social competence, including conversation skills utilized in making and keeping friends, making plans, and navigating social relationships. As mentioned above, sessions take place within community settings and within activities that social and self-care skills naturally occur (e.g., hair salon, local stores and boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants, fitness centers, etc.).
