Flute Theater Company and Hunter Heartbeat Method

Flute Theatre Company and its founder, Kelly Hunter, of the Royal Shakespeare Company is coming to KC in January to Heart of America Shakespeare.

·         Kelly is the creator of the Hunter Heartbeat Method which is a Shakespearian focused theatre intervention based around the rhythm of iambic pentameter. The Hunter Heartbeat Method has been used to reach children with Autism Spectrum Disorder for the past 20 years.

·         Over the years, teaching strategies and intervention methods have been refined and have been anecdotally effective in improving social and communication skills with children of all ages and abilities. (Ohio State Nisonger Center did research on method- link to research paper below).

·         Drama-based intervention may be a good vehicle to teach many social and communication skills that can benefit children with ASD.
