Revised Invitation from KDADS, CSPC and BHS Services Meetings!

Greetings,

This is revised invitation.   Some regional meeting locations have changed from yesterday.   If you forwarded the invitation that you received yesterday to anyone, please resend this one to them today.

May 2013 has been declared National Mental Health Awareness Month.  With this in mind, the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) Community Services and Programs Commission (CSPC) Behavioral Health Services (BHS) is holding a series of regional meetings to hear from stakeholders as the agency moves forward with the Governor’s Mental Health Initiative. We would like to create opportunities for Community Mental Health Centers to serve a wider variety of challenges through collaboration, capacity building, resource sharing and a strengths-based approach.

We want to meet with stakeholders who are interested in behavioral health to provide some basic information about the Governor’s Initiative, begin gathering initial information for regional needs assessments, and identify potential community partnerships.

End the Wait Advocates Needed

As you now may be aware, Governor Brownback has recommended what essentially equates to a cut in the DD HCBS Waiver Budget. This is the first time in memory where a Kansas governor has recommended a cut in the DD waiver. See the Chart below:

There is a very good chance that the House Social Services Budget Sub-Committee will begin holding budget hearings beginning Monday, February 4, 2013. The word on the street is that the DD budget will be up first. Social Services Budget meets in room 144-S at 3:30PM.
I am hoping to have interested parents, self advocates or other interested parties to contact me with a desire to appear before the committee to testify in support of increased funding for the DD waiver to move Kansans off of the DD Waiting List.
Please contact me as soon as possible if you are interested in coming to Topeka to testify.
